L SHAPED DORMER
L-Shaped Dormers are simply two dormers joined together to form an L-shape. These types of loft conversions are traditionally found on semi-detached properties or on Victorian terraced houses.
The L-Shaped Dormer Loft Conversion will consist of one Larger dormer which will be added to the main roof of a property and the smaller dormer built onto the rear of the roof which will also be slightly lower down.
Reasons for a Dormer
- Can create new space for bedrooms or office area
- L-shaped loft conversions can be used to provide additional headroom

Do L-Shaped Dormers require planning permission?
It’s common for the L-Shaped Dormer loft conversion not to require planning permission due to the structured roof alterations not being too major, though it is always worth checking with your local authority planning policies to check on rules in your area.
If previous work has been carried out on the property prior to this loft conversion, specifically extensions or improvements to the structure of the building these policies can also vary depending on what has been changed.
