FULL REAR DORMER

This type of loft renovation is the most popular in the UK. The current slope at the rear is removed and constructed vertically from the rear height. Rear skylights are sometimes installed directly from the rear wall of a building, or in some cases slightly placed to ensure that the loft renovation meets council requirements. Although the roofs at the rear appear flat and are even called flat roofs, the outer layer of the roof actually has a slight slope to drain rainwater and enter the gutter.

Reasons for a dormer

  • Planning permission is not be required
  • Dormer provides maximum headroom

  • Great investment which will add value to your home
  • Various types of dormers, from Georgian and Victorian, through to pre-war and contemporary

Do I need planning permission for dormer loft conversions?

Due to the limited amount of changes to the structure of the property a dormer loft conversion can fall under permitted development for homeowners. Be sure to contact your local authorities planning permission department to always confirm that you are within the rules as height and extension set back can change permission laws.
